Shopping centers or industrial shops
Factories or restaurants? That is a question the Elk Grove Planning Department is seeking public input on at an upcoming community workshop.
Following direction from the Elk Grove City Council, city planners are initiating a project to review the amount, location, and character of the industrial areas in the city. The intent of this project is to ensure Elk Grove has and adequate supply of industrial land and that these areas are compatible with surrounding uses.
In addition to this the, the City will be looking at the types of uses that are appropriate in the existing industrial areas. Industrial properties have historically been reserved for manufacturing, storage, and processing of goods.
According to the Elk Grove Planning Department some property owners have suggested that land currently zoned for industrial uses be used for offices, restaurants, and public assembly. While allowing these uses within industrial areas would create additional economic opportunities, it may also reduce the City’s inventory of industrial property.
Public Outreach
To help grapple with this issued, the city is planning several public workshops in June and July to present the project to the public and to solicit input and feedback. The first workshop will be held from 6 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21 at City Hall.
